These have been some lovely comments about Ivan Ditmars whose name alone is rather memorable. I think I absorbed his name by osmosis as it is mentioned at the end of so many radio shows. I did know he played the organ. I am so glad that Chuck Schaden who seems to have listened to every radio show there was for also interviewing everyone he could which has been so helpful to all concerned. Some of these interviews must be very rare, even one of a kind. I enjoyed listening to Mr. Ditmars play on “A Tooth for Paul Revere” once again.

Wonderful interview from a seemly very humble musical heavy weight during his lifetime. Really enjoyed his reminiscing. I found your sight Googling Mr Ditmars name that I discovered on the credits from the 60’s cartoon Roger Ramjet……Thank you so much for shedding some light on this man’s illustrious career.

He was indeed talking about the series Star Trek. Wilbur Hatch was involved in the first season because he worked for Lucille Ball’s, production company, Desilu, which produced Trek. Hatch had previously done I Love Lucy.

The episode was titled Requiem for Methuselah and they meet a man in the future who was immortal and was actually Brahms on earth. Spock sits down and plays the “previously unknown” Brahms piece and Ditmar’s actual music is on the keybersoard.

Thank you for the “rebroadcast” of these early TWTD programs. Caught on and been following since the late 80’s, early 90’s. Many of these shows are new to me now. You’re 50 year anniversary coverage of WW2 starting in the 90’s really hooked me into TWTD. Radio at the time was the ‘internet’ of today, the fastest mode of broadcasting information. You’re blend of both war time radio coverage and popular broadcasts of the time really help those of us born later get to know the time. Cannot find any other source that has covered this time as well as TWTD did . Am currently re-listening again to you’re ’94 3 week-end broadcast of the D-Day coverage,…should be required listening for any history fan. Please keep filling in these TWTD files, both the ‘new’ one’s to me and and the others I would love to remember. Hope you can find a way to preserve all these TWTD broadcast’s, for many of us now, this is how we came to love ‘old radio’. Thank you again, Jim Giustino

By luck and the internet I stumbled onto TWTD a few years ago. It has made me wish I was born in Chicago instead of Cleveland in Sept. 1942 which means I was a baby during WW2, but still part of it, so I have really appreciated this series, especially the call in segment where people talk about life on the home front.

All I can say is “Amen” to the above comment in memory of Robert White of whom I had no knowledge until I listened to the above interview as I do not listen to much classical music. I was very impressed by his voice, his background and his pleasant personality. When I decided to order recordings by him, I realized he had just died and that his career had been in England as tenors dropped out of popular favor long ago here. I am glad he was able to do so well and did have a teaching position here. At just six years younger than Robert White, I should have known him as I like tenors, but even the once very popular Dennis Day is hardly remembered anymore given the few recordings still available.
