REMEMBERING our fine feathered friends as we present a program For The Birds.  We have excellent support from such “bird-watchers” as Evelyn Knight, Frankie Laine, Rosemary Clooney, Kate Smith, Guy Mitchell, the Beatles, Bing Crosby and the Ink Spots. In addition, we’ll have an imaginary “Feathered Friends Film Festival” pointing out many movies that are appropriate to this month’s theme.

WOODY WOODPECKER cartoon from 1941. “Pantry Picnic.”  Woody stays behind while the other birds in the forest migrate south for the winter.

DONALD DUCK cartoon from 1951. “Lucky Number” starring Donald with Huey, Dewey and Louie.  Gas station owner Donald is disappointed that he didn’t win a new car, but his nephews have a surprise for him.

BILL AND COO, a 1947 full length (60 minutes) motion picture produced by Ken Murray, directed by Dean Rieser.  An all-bird cast (no animation, using live birds) performing and trained by George Burton.

Here’s the story:  Bill Singer is just an ordinary (albeit feathery) taxi driver in the town of Chirpendale – who wants nothing more than to woo his beloved girlfriend, Coo. When a parakeet-devouring crow named “The Black Menace” arrives in town, nothing will be the same!

This astonishing film won a special Academy Award “in which artistry and patience blended in a novel and entertaining use of the medium of motion pictures”!

THE BIRDS.  Director Alfred Hitchcock promotes his upcoming 1963 motion picture in this official preview trailer.

PAUL McCARTNEY performs “Blackbird” live at the Glastonbury Music Festival in 2004.
