Kirk Alyn

He was the motion picture screen’s first Man of Steel, starring in the 1948 Columbia Pictures 15-chapter serial, Superman and the sequel, Atom Man versus Superman in 1950. He was in Chicago for a special event celebrating his career. He was born October 8, 1910 and was 68 when we spoke to him in our broadcast studio a few days before his personal appearance. He died March 14, 1999 at age 88.

Great interview ! Thanks for posting. I met Kirk back in the early 1980s at a science fiction convention. He was a very nice man.

Wow, that was so neat! I just discovered this site and had no idea so many of these sorts of interviews existed. Like so many others I first saw Kirk Alyn in the SUPERMAN serials, but to be honest I only knew the most general information about him. It was enlightening to hear him speak not only about his career, but about what the different studios were like. Now I have to try to find his other film appearances. Thanks!

I was at your show with him in 1979. We watched his cartoons and film clips and then did a question & answer session. It was a great night. I spoke with Mr Alyn and got several autographs.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful interview with Kirk Alyn…I own these DVD’s and loved with 15-chapter Superman serial from Columbia Pictures that I originally saw at a neighborhood movie house when I was a kid (15-Saturday matinees) in a row…Mr. Alyn was my favorite of all the actors who have played Superman over the years..Thanks for the memories.
