Longtime personality at station WBBM, Chicago from 1955 to 1969, he worked as a staff announcer and program host. He was born in 1919 and was 68 when we spoke in his home in preparation for the book “WBBM Radio, Yesterday & Today.” He talked about the many changes at the station and in radio in general during that period of time and of his pre- and post-WBBM career. He died July 12, 2010 at age 90.

Thank you so much for providing this interview with Mal. It was great to hear about his history in radio especially at WBBM. I had the pleasure of working as a dj at WIVS during his ownership there. He was such a nice person to work with and to work for. I was only part time but had the chance to be around Mal quite a lot and I enjoyed it very much. I was saddened by his passing but thankful I had the privilege of knowing him and working at his station. Thanks again for doing the interview and posting it here. Sam Barnes
