Tex Beneke

Musician and bandleader in the big band era, Gordon “Tex” Beneke was in Chicago in advance of an upcoming appearance at the Ravinia Park Festival of music. He was born February 12, 1914 and was 63 at the time of our conversation at the Union League Club in Chicago. He spoke of his days with the Glenn Miller Band, his days fronting Miller’s band after Glenn’s disappearance during World War II, and of his own days with his own orchestra. Joining in the conversation is big band historian Karl Pearson. Tex Beneke died May 30, 2000 at age 86.

  1. Tex was the best–great musician and great personality. It would be good to hear from some of his relatives with their memories of Tex.
