Eddie Carroll
Recorded February 11th, 2009 - 36 min
Primarily an actor in television for many years, he became the voice of Walt Disney’s Jimminy Cricket after the death of Cliff Edwards. In 1958 he began appearing in one-man shows as Jack Benny. He was a favorite of various old-time radio clubs across the country, often participating in OTR recreations as Mr. Benny. We invited him to star in his original theatrical performance, “Jack Benny – Love in Bloom” at Chicago’s Portage Theatre in an event marking the 39th Anniversary of our ‘Those Were The Days” radio program. The appearance resulted in a sold out, full house. We spoke with him on the phone, at length, just prior to his arrival in Chicago. Naturally, we talked about his and our favorite subject, Jack Benny. Eddie Carroll was born September 5, 1933 and he was 76 at the time of our conversation. He died April 6, 2010 at age 77.
