Chicago Announcer's Roundtable

Three veteran Chicago-based announcers – Jim Hill, Norman Barry and Ed Grennan – recall their careers on the staff of WMAQ/NBC radio and television. Our conversation took place at a meeting of the Midwest Pioneer Broadcasters at the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago. Mr. Barry was born in 1910 and was 84 at the time of we spoke. He died December 25, 1998 at age 88. Mr. Grennan was born in 1922 and was 72 at the time of our conversation. He died August 22, 2000 at age 78. Mr. Hill was born December 26, 1929 and was 64 when we spoke. He died February 22, 2005 at age 76.

The voices from my childhood!!! these interviews are treasures & need to be preserved in the Library of Congress. I set aside some time each day – except TWTD Saturday afternoons – and thrill. If only TV anchors could have the discipline and training of radio artists!
