Dick Helton

Recorded February 23rd, 1988 - 29 min

He joined WBBM Newsradio 78 in February, 1969 just after the station changed to an all-news format.  He auditioned for a writer position but became a general assignment reporter and then an on-air news anchor. We spoke in preparation for the book, “WBBM Radio, Yesterday and Today” as he talked about many of the people he interviewed, including a Titanic survivor, George Harrison (on the day the Beatles broke up), and the day “Ted Baxter” visited the WBBM newsroom.
