Popular character actor in films in a long screen career that took off in the 1930s with The Front Page (1931). He was born November 11, 1899 and was 70 when we met him in the Star Suite at the Drury Lane Evergreen Park theatre in suburban Chicago. We talked extensively with him about a career that included such films as Angels with Dirty Faces (1938); Knute Rockne, All-American (1941); Fighting Father Dunne (1948); The Last Hurrah (1958) and Some Like It Hot (1959). He died October 15, 1983 at age 83.
