Michael Rye

Radio actor with roots in Chicago, where he was born in March 2, 1918. Using his birth name, Rye Billsbury, he appeared in such shows as Ma Perkins, Backstage Wife and Jack Armstrong. He was Mr. First Nighter for nine years before relocating to California where he did a great amount of voice-over work for TV cartoons and commercials. He was 61 at the time of our conversation following his appearance on a Sears Radio Theatre program recorded at Paramount Studios in Hollywood. He died September 20, 2012 at age 94.

I loved your conversation with Michael Rye! I was hoping you were going to mention when he was the announcer on “The Cisco Kid” in Hollywood around 1942 up to the mid-1940’s!

I met Mike back in 2012 during the time of his 94th birthday. He was such a nice and gentle man, and he really seemed to recall his days behind the mic pretty fondly, and he seemed to enjoy talking about his Green Lantern role. I really miss him.
This interview with Mike is great, it actually brings back memories of that meeting.
