Olan Soule
Recorded October 11th, 1989 - 24 min
The star of radio’s First Nighter and so many other shows during broadcasting’s heyday visited Chicago to see the Museum of Broadcast Communications to talk about his radio years in the Windy City. He was born December 28, 1909 and was 79 when we reminisced. He died February 1, 1994 at age 85. Note: This is a separate conversation than the one with Olan and Barbara Luddy on February 17, 1975.

Mr. Soule had an amazing sense of recall, and could remember so much about the names, dates, places and numbers of his long and varied career. I just recently saw Mr. Soule, along with Les Tremayne, in the Chicago Auction sequence from “North by Northwest.”
Back in the fifties, you never knew where Mr. Soule would pop up next on radio, television and film.
Truly a fascinating man with a real story to tell!

I will always and forever remember Olan Soule as the animated voice of Batman!! I first heard his voice as Batman on the long running SuperFriends series. It wasn’t until the early 80’s in syndication that I finally saw the Adventures of Batman by Filmation from 1968, which I saw on the Bozo Show on WGN Chicago cable channel. I’m listening to his interview now, so in case Batman is not mentioned, I thought I would post it here. I loved Olan Soule and Casey Kasem as the animated voices of Batman and Robin as well as Adam West and Burt Ward who were Batman and Robin in both live action and in the New Adventures of Batman by Filmation in 1977. Olan Soule was to Batman what Bud Collyer was to Superman, That very first distinctive voice. Olan and Casey and Adam and Burt were my 2 sets of Caped Crusaders. Rest in Power Olan Soule .
