Len Walter

Recorded February 23rd, 1988 - 24 min

He joined WBBM Newsradio Chicago in February, 1969 just after the station became an all-new outlet for CBS.  He came in as an anchorperson and soon was a general assignment reporter, but since he always had an interest in stories that were business related, it wasn’t long before he was asked to start a business news segment on a regular basis. He quickly became Business Editor for the station. We spoke in preparation for the book “WBBM Radio, Yesterday and Today.”

  1. I listened to WBBM for decades “…at 25 and 55, Len Walter, NewsRadio, 78…” It was consistently excellent reporting. Mr. Walter was my favorite reporter, and I would stop what I was doing just to catch his segment. If I was in my car and had the ballgame on WGN radio, I would tune to WBBM at 25 or 55 minutes to listen to Len’s report, then return to the game. Len Walter, to business reporting, is what Walter Cronkite was to the news.
