Margaret Whiting

One of the most popular vocalists of the 1940s and ‘50s. She was born July 22, 1924 and was 47 when we met for this quick chat backstage at the Blue Max nightclub in suburban Chicago. Her hits included “Moonlight in Vermont,” “A Tree in the Meadow” and “Baby It’s Cold Outside” (with Johnny Mercer). She died January 10, 2011 at age 86.
