LEO IS ON THE AIR (1939) Radio preview of MGM’s new film, “The Wizard Of Oz” features members of the screen cast offering a preview of the film’s score. Syndicated. (11:55)
GOOD NEWS OF 1939 (6-29-39) Host Robert Young presents the closing program in the series with the entire show devoted to the behind the scenes making of “The Wizard of Oz.” During this broadcast, with music from the picture being heard on the air for the first time, the stars from the film perform: Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, Frank Morgan. Also heard are Harold Arlen and E. Y. Harburg, plus Fred Stone, the original “Strawman.” Regulars include Fanny Brice and Hanley Stafford as Baby Snooks and Daddy, and Meredith Willson and the orchestra.
